Increase your personal resilience in 2017!

Why is raising your personal resilience so important?

According to WHO stress is the largest global epidemic in the field of health of the 21st century. With current technology, we can choose to be online 24 hours a day and always busy. The complexity and chaos in the world we live in is increasing. Multitasking is hip. We move too little, sleep too little, eat irregular or while answering emails, one week we are in the United States of America for a conference and the next in China to sign a cooperation contract.

We expect that our bodies permanently have the flexibility to be under constant pressure and to adapt. To sleep and relax we flee to alcohol, painkillers, or a sleeping pill. As the pressure increases a normal reaction is to work even harder.

The result is exhaustion, burnout lurks, an impaired immune system and the development of chronic diseases. How in control do you feel? Do you have time for what really matters to you? Stress occurs when pressure is chronically high and you no longer feel in control. The demanding work cultures of our time will not change over night. Unless you take matters in your own hands and begin to make other choices for yourself.

What is personal resilience?

Resilience means being able to bounce back. In Sanskrit resilience means BALA. And also immunity and the power of the body. Resilience is the ability of your body to come back into balance after periods of stress, the ability to be robust under times of tremendous stress and change. Resilience is a reflex, a way of looking and examining the world. Resilience is deeply connected to our spirit and soul. People with resilience look at the hardships with a certain sobriety and seeking solutions. Others with lack of resilience do not, they are in despair and paralyze making it sometimes take years before they can recover from a phase of depression and anxiety.

People with high resilience can be recognized by:

  • Positive optimism; optimistic with a plain, being near the ground, reality
  • Meaning: giving meaning to the tasks they face. They are able to build a bridge from a painful or difficult situation to a better future.
  • Handling strong value systems, thereby making it possible to interpret events and to be able to give importance to the environment
  • Inventive; able to combine objects or subjects to a solution that others do not see.
  • Energetic; they appeal to others and do what has their passion.

For a healthy and happy society, constantly working on good resilience is essential.
